Mediterranean Diet Meal Plan
A 2,000 kcal Mediterranean week. Olive oil, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, legumes, nuts, herbs, fish, and modest dairy. One of the better-studied dietary patterns. Edit it in Foodzilla.
The Mediterranean diet
The pattern comes from everyday eating in Greece, Spain, and Italy: plants first, olive oil as the main fat, fish more often than red meat. Clinicians use it because the outcome data is strong, not because the food is fashionable. The usual pieces are:
- - Whole grains. Brown rice, wholewheat pasta, barley. Carbohydrate plus fibre.
- - A lot of fruit and vegetables. Vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
- - Unsaturated fats. Olive oil first, then nuts, seeds, and oily fish such as salmon.
- - Lean protein. Fish, poultry, legumes. Red meat is limited. Fish also brings omega-3s.
- - Herbs and spices. Basil, oregano, rosemary, and the rest, instead of extra salt.
- - Dairy in modest amounts. Yogurt and cheese for calcium.
- - Red wine, optional and modest, if the client already drinks. Do not start someone on wine for this diet.
- - Movement. The traditional pattern includes regular activity, not only the plate.
Mediterranean diet 2,000 kcal plan
A general-use week for clients with no extra medical restrictions.
What people often see when they stick with it:
- 1. Mixed nutrition at 2,000 kcal without leaving the pattern.
- 2. Fibre from fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, which helps fullness and the gut.
- 3. Antioxidants from plants and herbs. These are one reason the pattern is linked with lower chronic-disease risk.
- 4. Portions that fill people without a huge calorie load.
- 5. Food people actually want to eat, which is why adherence is better than on stricter diets.
- 6. Easy to edit for calories, likes, and goals.
- 1. Heart. Linked with better cholesterol and blood pressure and lower heart-disease risk.
- 2. Weight. Whole food and portion control help a deficit or maintenance.
- 3. Cognition. Omega-3s from fish plus plant antioxidants are the usual explanation for the cognitive data.
- 4. Longevity. Populations that eat this way tend to live longer. Diet is part of that, not the whole story.
