Gout Diet Meal Plan
A 1,250 kcal low-purine week for gout. Less uric acid from food, without emptying the plate. Edit trigger foods in Foodzilla.
What gout is
Uric acid crystals in the joints. Sudden, severe pain, often in the big toe. The body makes too much uric acid or cannot clear it. Genes matter. So does diet.
The 1,250 kcal gout week
Written to cut flare risk:
- - Low-purine protein. Lean meat, poultry, tofu, legumes. Organ meat and some seafood raise uric acid and are out or rare.
- - A lot of vegetables. Vitamins, minerals, fibre, and naturally low purines.
- - Fibre, which helps weight and fullness. Weight is a gout lever.
- - Low-fat dairy and soy, both linked with lower blood uric acid.
- - The rest of the nutrition still has to add up.
Beyond the plate
Diet is one part. Also:
- - Take prescribed gout medicines as directed.
- - About 30 minutes of activity most days, if joints allow.
- - Weight loss if needed, slowly. Crash diets raise uric acid.
- - Fluid. At least 8 cups a day, half of it water, to help clear uric acid.
- - A food log to catch personal trigger foods.
