Low Potassium Meal Plan

A 2,000 kcal week that keeps potassium down. Use it for kidney disease, hyperkalaemia risk, or medicines that raise potassium. The rest of the nutrition still has to add up.

Why potassium is restricted

Potassium runs nerve signals, muscle contraction, and heart rhythm. Too much in the blood, hyperkalaemia, is dangerous, especially when the kidneys cannot clear it.

A low-potassium diet is used for:

1. Kidney disease. Less potassium means less load on damaged kidneys and less hyperkalaemia.

2. Blood pressure and the heart. High potassium can be a problem in some cardiac and renal pictures. This is not the same as the DASH advice to raise potassium in healthy people. Check the diagnosis.

3. Medicines that raise potassium. Diet can offset that effect so the drug can stay.

The 2,000 kcal low-potassium week

Meals that stay inside a low-potassium brief without being a bowl of white rice every night.

  • Limits bananas, oranges, potatoes, and tomatoes, and uses lower-potassium swaps.
  • Vitamins, minerals, and macros still in range without blowing the potassium cap.
  • General use when there is no tighter renal prescription. Stage the week to labs if the client has CKD.
  • Enough recipe mix that the client can stay on it.
