Android Health Connect Integration
Health Connect is the health data hub built into Android. When a client connects it to the Foodzilla app, their steps, calories burned, workouts, sleep and weight sync into Foodzilla on their own, and the meals they log in Foodzilla are written back to Health Connect. It is the Android counterpart to our Apple Health integration, so every client shows up in your dashboard the same way whichever phone they carry.
What syncs from Health Connect
Once a client turns on Health Connect from the Health tab in the app, Foodzilla reads five types of data and shows them next to their food diary. Nothing has to be typed in twice, and the sync runs again each time they open the Health tab.
- Steps, totalled for each day.
- Active calories burned, so energy out sits beside energy in.
- Workouts, with the activity type and duration. Running, cycling, strength training, yoga and dozens more.
- Sleep sessions, with the time actually asleep.
- Weight logs, which feed the weight chart and progress reports.
Meals go back the other way
The sync is not one directional. When a client logs a meal in Foodzilla, the energy and nutrients are written to Health Connect as a nutrition record with the right meal type. Any other app they have allowed to read nutrition data, Samsung Health for example, sees what they ate without a second entry.
One connection for every Android wearable
Health Connect collects data from the apps already on the phone. Samsung Health, Google Fit, Fitbit, Garmin Connect, Oura, WHOOP and Withings can all share data with it. So a client with a Galaxy Watch or a Pixel Watch connects Health Connect once, and their data arrives in Foodzilla with no separate login for each brand.
- Galaxy Watch and Samsung Health.
- Pixel Watch, Fitbit and Google Fit.
- Garmin, Oura, WHOOP, Withings and other apps that support Health Connect.
How clients turn it on
Open the Health tab in the Foodzilla app, or in your white label app, on an Android phone. The app asks for permission to read steps, calories, workouts, sleep and weight, and to write nutrition. Health Connect shows exactly what is being shared, and the client can change or remove any of it later in their Android settings.
Health Connect is part of Android 14 and newer. On Android 9 to 13 it is a free download from Google Play, and the app points the client to it if it is missing.
What you see as the coach
Synced data lands in the client's profile on the web platform the same way manually logged data does. Calories burned appear in the daily energy balance, workouts in the exercise log, sleep and weight on their charts, and all of it feeds the nutrition reports. You can see whether a client's intake lines up with how active they were that week, then adjust their plan from the evidence rather than from memory.
