Liver Support Diet Plan
A week that cuts the foods that load the liver and raises fibre, antioxidants, and omega-3s. Edit it in Foodzilla. It is not a detox cleanse.
What a liver-support week actually does
Less saturated fat, refined sugar, salt, and alcohol. Those are the foods that worsen fatty liver and extra hepatic work.
- Fast food and processed snacks, high in trans fats and sodium.
- Processed red meat.
- Alcohol.
- Raw or undercooked shellfish, which can carry bacteria or toxins the liver then has to handle.
Whole food is easier for the liver to process:
- Fruit and vegetables. Antioxidants.
- Whole grains. Fibre, which helps elimination.
- Lean meat and oily fish. Protein without a large fat load.
- Beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
- 30 to 55g fibre a day.
Foods with more specific liver data:
- Berries. Antioxidants.
- Cruciferous vegetables. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale. They induce detoxification enzymes.
- Beans. Protein and fibre.
- Nuts. Unsaturated fats and antioxidants.
- Oily fish. Omega-3s, which can lower liver inflammation.
- Green tea. Catechins, with some data on liver enzymes.
Nutrients the liver uses
Antioxidants. Berries, leafy greens, green tea, nuts, seeds, cruciferous vegetables.
Fibre. Whole grains, fruit, vegetables, beans, legumes. Helps remove waste and cholesterol.
Omega-3s. Salmon, mackerel, flax, chia, walnuts. Anti-inflammatory, and used in fatty-liver work.
Vitamin C. Citrus, peppers, strawberries, kiwi. Also supports glutathione production.
B6, B12, and folate. Whole grains, lean meat, eggs, leafy greens, legumes.
Glutathione. Avocado, spinach, broccoli, garlic. A main hepatic antioxidant.
Choline. Eggs, liver, chicken, salmon, soy. Moves fat out of the liver.
Sample day
A sample day:
- Oats, blueberries, and chia.
- Apple and almond butter.
- Salmon, mixed greens, olive oil.
- Carrots and hummus.
- Broccoli and brown rice.
- Green tea and walnuts.
Habits next to the plate
1. Water. The liver needs fluid for its usual work.
2. Regular meals so the liver is not hit with one huge load.
3. Do not stack unnecessary supplements. Extra vitamins can add hepatic work.
