BMR Formula Selector
No longer locked into a single equation. Foodzilla now lets you choose your preferred Basal Metabolic Rate formula — or enter a completely custom value — when onboarding clients. Whether you rely on Harris-Benedict, Mifflin-St Jeor, or your own clinical calculations, the flexibility is yours.
Choose Your Preferred BMR Formula
Different clinical scenarios call for different metabolic calculations. Foodzilla gives you the freedom to select the BMR formula that best fits each client, rather than defaulting to a single equation for everyone.
- Harris-Benedict — the classic, widely used equation for estimating basal metabolic rate.
- Mifflin-St Jeor — a more contemporary formula often considered more accurate for modern populations.
- Custom value — enter your own BMR figure based on indirect calorimetry, clinical judgement, or alternative equations.
- Easy selection during client onboarding — choose the formula when adding or editing a client.
Match Your Clinical Approach
Every practitioner has a preferred methodology. Sports dietitians may favour one formula, while clinical nutritionists working with obese populations may prefer another. By offering multiple BMR options, Foodzilla adapts to your expertise rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all approach.
If you have access to indirect calorimetry data or prefer to use a formula not listed, the custom value option lets you input any BMR figure directly — giving you complete control over the foundation of your nutrition calculations.
Apply Per Client During Onboarding
The BMR formula is selected during client setup, so each client can have the most appropriate calculation applied from day one. This per-client flexibility means you can use Harris-Benedict for one client and a custom value for another — all within the same practice.
Once set, the selected BMR feeds into calorie targets, macro calculations, and automated meal plan generation, ensuring consistency across the entire nutrition workflow.
