How Do I Import Foods or Ingredients Into Foodzilla?

Foodzilla supports three ways to import foods and ingredients:

• Paste product information as text

• Import from a public product web link

• Bulk import multiple foods using a CSV file

This is useful when a food is not already available in the database or when you need to add branded products with their nutrition information, ingredients, allergens, and serving sizes.

Start a Food Import

  1. Go to Food Databases
  2. Click Import
  3. Choose Paste Text, Web Link, or CSV File

Import Using Paste Text

Use this option when you have product information copied from a website, nutrition label, document, or product listing.

  1. Select Paste Text
  2. Copy and paste the full product information into the text box
  3. Click Continue
  4. Wait while Foodzilla processes the information
  5. Review and correct the imported details
  6. Save the food

The text does not need to be perfectly formatted. Foodzilla identifies relevant details and ignores unrelated content.

It can extract information such as:

• Product name

• Serving size

• Energy

• Protein

• Carbohydrates

• Fat

• Sodium

• Ingredient list

• Allergens

Processing generally takes around 30 seconds.

Use this option when the product information is available on a public product page.

  1. Select Web Link
  2. Paste the direct URL of the product page
  3. Click Continue
  4. Wait while Foodzilla imports the product information
  5. Review the extracted details
  6. Save the food

Only one product can be imported at a time. Processing may take up to 40 seconds.

For the best results, use a page that clearly displays the nutrition panel, serving information, ingredients, and allergens.

Bulk Import Foods Using a CSV File

Use the CSV import option when you need to add multiple foods or ingredients at once.

  1. Select CSV File
  2. Click Download CSV Template
  3. Enter your food information using the required template format
  4. Save the file as a CSV
  5. Drag and drop the file into the upload area, or click to browse
  6. Click Import Foods
  7. Wait for the processing notification

All nutrition values are based on 100 g unless you provide a different Base Measurement.

You can also add up to five custom measurements for each food in the CSV file.

Once processing is complete, imported foods will appear in your organisation’s database on the Food Databases page.

Review Imported Information

Always check imported foods before using them, especially:

• Nutrition values

• Measurement basis

• Serving sizes

• Product name and brand

• Ingredient list

• Allergens

• Units such as grams, milligrams, calories, or kilojoules
